One Central Park

One of the most awarded buildings in Australia, One Central Park is a true icon on the Sydney skyline. Designed by Pulitzer-prize winning architect, Jean Nouvel & veiled in Patrick Blanc’s vertical gardens, these apartments boast bold, beautiful, world-class architecture that defines 21st century living.

The Council on Tall Buildings & Urban Habitat (CTBUH) has named Sydney’s One Central Park 2014’s Best Tall Building in the World’. After impressing the judges with its hydroponic hanging gardens & massive cantilevered mirror that directs sunlight for heating & lighting into or away from the building & its adjoining park when most needed.

Designed by French practice Ateliers Jean Nouvel in collaboration with Australian firm PTW, the project was shortlisted for the title after winning the CTBUH’s ‘Best Tall Building in Asia & Australasia’ award earlier in June.

The development also challenges the perception that tall buildings can only block light & rob the urban environment of natural greenery. Instead, it does just the opposite, strategically casting light about itself to reduce rooftop heat loads & stirring visual interest at height & on the ground, while enshrouding itself in lush greenery.

The Sydney high-rise has won Best Innovative Green Building at the world’s biggest property show.
Cloaking the facades of its two towers, One Central Park’s vertical gardens are the largest in the world by area, covering 1100 square metres. Designed by renowned French botanist & artist Patrick Blanc, they lower energy consumption in winter by protecting the building from the cold, & in summer by providing a natural cooling system. The mesh-covered felt they are planted in also absorbs polluting particles from the air & breaks them down into plant fertiliser.
